Ruth Whitaker has been taking acrylic painting classes from noted artist Kay Stanley for the past 13 years. She also participated in life style drawing classes from well-known artist Martin Pate for eight years. She also follows celebrated pastel artist Karen Margulis, through her blog on Patreon, and assorted workshops. Ruth has also taken workshops from renowned pastel and oil artist Marsha Savage and international pastel artist Tony Allain.
She was invited to present demonstrations for both the Newnan-Coweta Art Association (NCAA) and the Fine Art Society (FAS) in Georgia. She taught her first Pastel Workshop in November 2023. Ruth has been a member of the NCAA for twelve years; the Appalachian Pastel Society (APS) for eight years; the Piedmont Pastel Society for two years; and previously with the Douglasville Cultural Arts Center for two years. Her works have been shown at the NCAA Juried Member Art Exhibition, Donald W. Nixon Centre for Performing and Visual Arts, Newnan, GA, for more than ten years. She participated in the Thomaston Art and Soul Festival, Thomaston, GA, for the past two years; at Plein Aire Juried Contests where she received two 3rd Place ribbons the first year, and honorable mention the second year; and she participates in the annual NCAA's Christmas Arts & Crafts Market. Ruth currently hangs her works at Christy's Cafe, the Carnegie Library, and ANM Hair Designs, all in Newnan, GA. She has been a featured artist of the month at Newnan City Hall over the years. Ruth's latest endeavor was a solo show at the Thomaston Upson Arts Council (TUAC) Gallery in April and May 2024. Ruth and her husband, Don, reside in Newnan, GA. |
