Chelita started painting in the early 1960’s. She studied with Bill Alexander, her one and only teacher. Chelita is a certified instructor of Tole & Décorative Painting and Wet on Wet Landscape Techniques. She teaches her Technique of Painting in Oils and says, “It is a wonderful feeling to teach people how to paint and to see their faces when they finish their paintings.”
People always think learning to paint is difficult, but Chelita promises that she can teach anyone how to paint. She currently offers classes at the Harriet Alexander Art Center in Newnan. Chelita has been a member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association (NCAA) since 2015 and serves as a Director on the NCAA Board. Her works have been displayed at Newnan City Hall and in several local NCAA exhibits and competitive events. In 2018, she integrated an Art Education Classroom into the NCAA’s annual Christmas Market event. It provided another opportunity to bring visual arts into the community, encourage instructors of all visual art forms to lead workshops and do demonstrations, but most of all, to inspire people of any age to tap into their creative side. Chelita always strives to improve her art knowledge so she can be the best teacher possible. She is well known for her Black & White acrylic landscapes, as well. Chelita was born in West Virginia, raised in Alabama, and moved to Georgia In 1964. She and her (late) husband, Walter, have 3 kids, 8 grandkids, and 3 great-granddaughters. |
