Shelley Laurin has been painting in watercolor for 12 years, and has participated in many of NCAA's workshops
and shows.
Recently, her work has been displayed at the Espresso Lane Coffeehouse, the Newnan-Coweta Centre for the
Performing and Visual Arts, and the Newnan Coweta Visitors and Convention Bureau.
In May, 2006, her painting of "The Falls at Wahoo Creek" was juried into the travelling SCAVA show entitled
"Georgia's Riches." Laurin's work has won awards at the NCAA Spring Sidewalk Show, the Annual Arts Clayton
Juried Show, and the Espresso Lane Coffeehouse Monthly Exhibit.
Her colorful watercolors hang in many homes and offices in the Newnan-Coweta area. Her commissioned work
includes the Newnan Courthouse, Something Special (house and garden), and several historic Newnan homes,
as well as portraits of people and pets.
After living in Newnan for nine years, Laurin recently moved to "Miss Vicky's" old homeplace on Victoria
Drive in Moreland, and has hung her latest paintings in Deborah Smith's new gallery, Images, there.
In addition to painting, Laurin teaches watercolor classes, beginner to advanced, at her home. Beginners
are given a thorough grounding in the nature of paints, paper, brushes, etc. and principles of color mixing
before starting a picture. She feels this approach eliminates much of the frustration associated with
watercolors and enables students to produce satisfying results quickly. Experiments with new materials and
techniques are introduced as students gain skill and confidence. All are encouraged to develop their own subject
matter and individual style.
