Peggy Poe’s elementary and high school years were filled with much art work. However, she had a desire to travel and earned a degree in
Spanish from Elon University in North Carolina. She lived in Mexico City for a year and worked with Wycliffe Bible Translators as a bilingual
secretary before she married. She has been married to Gray Poe for 36 years and they have two children, Andrew and Amy Poe. She stayed at home with
her children for 13 years and then went back to school to become certified and taught Spanish for 5 years. She worked as a social worker for 8
years and went on 4 mission trips to Honduras and one to Mexico where she served as an interpreter. In 2009 she retired. Currently she volunteers
at Coweta Pregnancy Services where she teaches parenting classes to Hispanic women in Spanish, helps with teaching English as a second language,
and teaches Spanish privately to children. She has started a writers’ group and has written over 180 devotionals.
Her artistic “career” resurfaced 8 years ago when she took oil painting classes from Marje Groth until her death and then switched to Jean Westbrook.
For several years all she did was oil paintings of horses due to her childhood love for the beautiful animal. Then she switched to self-taught watercolors.
She also does sketches of children’s faces from photographs or directly. She was the artist drawing children at Breakfast with Santa for two years.
Her paintings have appeared at Expresso Lane Coffee Shop, Savannah Court of Newnan, Amy’s Hair Design, A. Mitchell Powell, Jr., Public Library, Coweta
County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, and the Center for Performing and Visual Arts Juried Art Show. She will paint or draw from photographs e-mailed to her.
