Margaret Gatton

Art has always held a magical fascination for me, a sense that it could take one into a land of imagination that could not be experienced otherwise.

I have always loved to draw and paint. As a child I would copy coloring books, comic books and birthday cards. Crayon was my medium. I went to college and wound up with a degree in Psychology because 'You cannot make a living as an artist'. But this yearning to paint still had a secret place in my heart. After college I took classes here and there, but did not start painting seriously until 1995 when I met Connie Lynn Riley who introduced me to pastels, color theory and portraiture. From then on I began to fulfill my heart's desire to paint.

Blessed with travels to many lands over the past years, I have visited England, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Austria and Africa, plus many splendid locations in the United States. From pictures taken on these trips I have drawn my inspiration for my paintings.

I do not paint a specific genre. I choose subject matter that evokes emotion in me:
Landscapes with their sense of majesty
People - the highlight of God's creation
Wildlife with their sense of untamed freedom

Bio:
I was born in Vermont and cried the day we moved away. I loved the view of the mountains from the front yard, truly 'purple mountain majesty'. We moved to Maine from there. I was 6 years old and spent my childhood growing up in a small beach town. In my mid-20's I moved to Georgia to take a job with the airlines and have been here since.
