Biography
Painting nature scenes comes natural for artist Dorothy Clark Cook. She grew up in Northern Maine, tree country,
among lakes and mountains; it is not a surprise that these are her favorite things to paint.
A resident of the Atlanta area since 1990, her many trips to North Georgia, the Great Smokey Mountains, and the Low
Country of South Carolina have created an equally important impression. Nature and flowers are what stirs the soul for
this artist and she hopes to stir those who view her paintings as well.
Dorothy has been taking photographs for over forty years. She tries to capture the light reflecting off objects,
takes close-ups of rocks, the bark of the trees, waves rolling onto the beach, and watching for the right moment to
catch movement. Her collection of photos helps her compose her paintings. She also paints ‘en plein air’.
Believing that God is the provider of all gifts, she gives all the praise and glory to Him whenever she expresses herself through her art work.
The artist has taken watercolor workshops from esteemed artists Tony Couch, Tom Lynch, Allison Christie, Jack Shields,
Don Crosby Brown, Lou Norton and several other teachers. Studying from art books and art videos has been a thirty year
venture, with a break taken to raise two sons and do volunteer work.
Her paintings hang in homes and private institutions.
You may contact her at her art studio, at 678-423-1069, in Sharpsburg, Ga.
